The school opened in 1974 under the Headship of Mr Palethorpe. During the first year there were only two classes, that of Mr Scott, and the other of Mrs Paton. The first pupils were in third and fourth year juniors only. The classes expanded the following year, taking more pupils from the overflow of the surrounding primary schools.
